Laura attended the University of Saskatchewan for undergraduate studies, medical school, and internal medicine residency and then moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba to complete a combined fellowship in respirology and critical care. In 1999 she relocated, with her husband, to Vancouver Island, BC, where she has lived and worked ever since, and where she has raised her family. She practiced internal medicine, respirology and critical care for 13 years before making the decision to do some more training and pursue an interest in sleep medicine in 2012. Since then, she has been working as a consultant physician in sleep disorders.
In 2019, a serious health problem led Laura into a journey of personal transformation, and she experienced the profound change that comes with true self compassion, and learning to trust her heart and follow what it tells her. This led to the opportunity to join the Aroga Lifestyle Medicine clinic as a sleep consultant and to becoming a Diplomate of the American Board of Lifestyle Medicine. She has also pursued training and work in the field of psychedelic assisted therapy. She is a Therapsil Prescriber and Medical Associate and a graduate of the Vancouver Island University Psychedelic Assisted Therapy Graduate Certificate Program.
Laura is excited to be answering the message that universe has been giving her for some time now, that she needs to offer treatment for chronic insomnia to the increasing numbers of people she sees suffering from this problem. She completed an online training program in cognitive behavioural therapy for insomnia, with Meg Danforth, PhD, CBSM and Colleen Carney, PhD, and was very excited to discover the textbook, Mindfulness-based therapy for insomnia by Dr. Jason Ong upon which the MBTI Groups program is based.
